Descripción

The transition towards a more sustainable, digital, and inclusive economy in Europe requires a human-centred approach that combines digital and industrial technologies, with an attention to spatial dynamics. However, there is a lack of integration between different disciplines and initiatives, resulting in missed opportunities for system change towards a more inclusive technological and social development. FABRIX aims to address this challenge by adopting an integrated approach to local and regenerative urban manufacturing, combining spatial design, industrial symbiosis, circular manufacturing, and value chain analysis. To achieve this, FABRIX will develop an innovative and interactive platform (MANTEL) that supports local value chain management for more circular and regenerative urban manufacturing. FABRIX focuses on the Textile & Clothing (T&C) sector in Athens (Greece) and Rotterdam (The Netherlands), which is a priority sector in the European Green Deal, the Circular Economy Action Plan, and the Industrial Strategy, but also one of the most environmentally and socially unsustainable sectors. The core innovation of FABRIX’s research design and implementation is that it constantly addresses and combines the spatial and relational perspectives; perspectives that in reality cannot be seen apart, but that in practice, are mostly dealt with separately in policy and research, thus hampering significant progress. This research design allows for a pro-active co-created implementation and change of the observed suboptimal reality. Although FABRIX’ chosen focus on the T&C sectors in Athens and Rotterdam, its innovative mix of research methods, its interactive, open-source digital platform of tools, and its capacity building FABRIX Academy, will ensure the transferability during and beyond the research project to other places and other sectors dealing with similar suboptimization. OBJETIVOS 1) Develop a theoretical and methodological frameworks that combines spatial and network perspectives 2) Mapping opportunities and bottlenecks to circular and regenerative transitioning of the T&C manufacturing in Athens and Rotterdam 3) Delivering integrated platform MANTEL 4) Support local actions and ecosystems for regenerative local and urban manufacturing 5) Dissemination and exploitation
